So, who'll eat all the pies?

But Tim O'Connor-Varcoe (11) and Christian Henderson (13) get wet and have fun anyway yesterday after the annual Taieri Rugby Club junior seven-a-side tournament at Peter Johnstone Park, in Mosgiel, was postponed due to atrocious weather.
There's nothing like tucking in to a hot pie after braving winter weather to play rugby.

Luckily for Taieri players, their club will not be short of them for a while.

Club members' freezers were yesterday being filled with 1000 pies and 400 sausages after the annual Taieri Junior Rugby Club seven-a-side tournament was postponed due to the wet weather that engulfed the region.

Organiser Brent Varcoe was left wondering what to do with the small mountain of food, which also included 300 meat patties and burger buns, ordered to feed the teams and crowds at the 49th tournament.

With 1000 players in 91 teams from throughout Otago set to compete, he spent Sunday setting up only to have to pack it all away from 6am yesterday.

"Poor weather let us down a bit," he said.

The food will be used by the club throughout the rugby season, and fresh supplies will be bought for the postponed tournament.

The event is likely to be rescheduled for August.
