Several North Otago roads were closed and the Kakanui River was in flood last night.
At least four roads, including Danseys Pass Rd, were closed because of surface flooding and wash-outs.
Closures listed on the Waitaki District Council website also included Herbert Rd, Island Cliff-Duntroon Rd and Jardine Rd from the intersection with Aitchison Rd.
The Otago Regional Council had an active flood notice in place for the Kakanui River, which peaked at 91.5cumecs at the Clifton Falls Bridge about 10am yesterday. By evening it had subsided to 56.1cumecs, although the flood notice remained.
The Waianakarua at Browns also peaked yesterday about 100cumecs.
The Maheno Bowling Club greens started to flood, and the intakes of three water schemes were shut down because of flooding.
Consumers on the Herbert-Waianakarua, Windsor and Hampden-Moeraki supplies were asked by the council to conserve water until further notice.
Areas of North Otago received between 10mm and 37mm of rain yesterday, and in the past week between 48mm and 120mm of rain had fallen.
Danseys Pass received 34mm of rain in the 24 hours to 5pm.
