Slipping in some repairs

Barclay Rd and Buccleugh St, in North East Valley, are closed for a month as repairs are made to the Dunedin road in the wake of a landslip last year.

The street was closed in May last year after heavy rain caused a slip that made it unsafe. Repairs are starting now, nearly eight months later.

A council spokesman said the repairs would cost $180,000, which included an anchored steel beam and timber wall.

To address the slope instability, the council had spent time on geotechnical investigations, engineered design, consents and procuring a contractor.

Stormwater runoff was likely a contributing factor to the slip, so repair work would include stormwater runoff controls to minimise future effects of stormwater on the adjacent slopes.

The spokesman said the site had been identified as a priority after repairs were completed to Pitt St, where there was a slip in September 2022.

The roads will be closed from January 8 to February 15.
