Born in Blenheim, the sisters attended the same primary school, Witherlea School, and later Marlborough Girls' College.
The eldest sister, Mikaela (23), who graduates today with a bachelor of science in psychology and a bachelor of commerce (hons) in marketing, was the first of the siblings to begin studying at Otago, in 2006.
She proved a good ambassador for the university and had no trouble convincing Anna and Sophie (21) to join her, in 2008.
Anna and Sophie are graduating today with bachelor of arts degrees in film and media studies.
All three sisters spent their first year at the university's Carrington College, and the twins then flatted together.
After completing their initial tertiary studies last year, the siblings have found themselves living in different cities this year.
Anna remains in Dunedin studying for a postgraduate diploma in primary school teaching at Otago, Sophie is enrolled at the New Zealand Broadcasting School in Christchurch, and Mikaela is in Auckland, working in marketing for international cosmetics and beauty company L'Oreal.
As a student, Mikaela had earlier gained a $5000 L'Oreal scholarship and internship, which led to her present job.
"It's been so nice being down here together. It was great - I miss them a lot," she said about her time at Otago.
She was impressed with the high quality of the Otago University teaching and said the student culture and atmosphere were "just unbelievable".
"When people think of a New Zealand university, they think of Otago," she added.
The sisters greatly enjoyed studying together, Mikaela providing some senior sisterly advice when needed and all rallying round to support each other.
"It was good to have that support all the time," Anna said.
The twins have found themselves living in different houses for the first time in their lives this year, but all three sisters have been keeping in close touch, including by email and Skype.
Anna and Sophie were initially due to graduate next week, with other humanities graduands, but switched dates in order to graduate with Mikaela this week.
Their parents have travelled south from Blenheim to join them for dinner tonight, after the graduation.
"I feel really excited about it," Mikaela said of today's schedule.
Anna felt "kind of sad" her siblings were no longer living in the same city, but was "really proud" to be graduating with them today.
