Sign operator threatened by angry cyclist

An enraged cyclist threatened to assault a stop-and-go operator with their sign, Dunedin police say.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called to the traffic management work site on State Highway 88 after a stop-and-go sign controller was threatened about 5pm on Tuesday.

The cyclist threatened to "bash her" with the stop-go sign, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Police are unsure what triggered the cyclist’s rage.

Police obtained a statement from the road worker, but were seeking information about the cyclist, or asking the cyclist to come forward so they could speak further with him.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency senior project manager Jason Forbes said the traffic controller was being supported by her employer.
