Police responding to reports of shots being fired at a Corstorphine property allegedly found a cannabis cultivation operation.
Armed police cordoned off Dovecote Ave about 12.45pm yesterday after a passerby heard the shots and raised the alarm, Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said.
Two people would appear in court later this week after police who went to the property found cannabis plants.
A man had fired a rifle into a garage wall.
It was not clear what his intent was, Snr Sgt Benn said.
''There was a report of two loud bangs,'' he said.
It was possible the man was trying to frighten or injure the dogs on the property, he said.
A 43-year-old Dunedin man was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm near a dwelling.
Police lifted the cordons about 1.15pm.
A woman was seen entering the address with three officers, two armed.
''While we were at the address we also arrested a female,'' Snr Sgt Benn said.
The 40-year-old woman was charged with cultivating cannabis.
Officers uncovered plants of various sizes and maturity at the property, Snr Sgt Benn said.
