Seminar on healthy eating, losing weight

Mosgiel residents have a chance to learn how to eat healthily and lose weight, at a seminar later this month.

Registered clinical nutritionist Delwyn MacKenzie will discuss the impacts of sugar on the body, the pros and cons of using supplements, and the benefits of a low-carbohydrate eating plan for weight management and wellness.

Many food items were so processed the body was ''confused'' about what to do with them, resulting in them being stored as fat.

Ms MacKenzie advocated a low-carbohydrate eating plan which involved eating more protein, vegetables, natural oils, and some fruit.

As well as helping with weight loss, the diet could benefit people suffering from depression and cancer, Ms MacKenzie said.

• The seminar is at 10am on November 22 at the Mosgiel Holistic Centre. For details contact Helen McLachlan on (03) 489-6474 or helen@mclachlan.net.nz
