Second indecent assault reported

Dunedin police are seeking information about an incident in which an 18-year-old woman was grabbed from behind by a man.

Senior Sergeant Bruce Ross said the woman was walking alone in Pitt St about 3.15am on Sunday.

''An unknown offender grabbed her from behind and groped the front of her body. The female elbowed the offender and he ran off.''

The woman was not able to get a good look at the man, so could not provide a description to police.

Snr Sgt Ross said anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time should contact Dunedin police.

CIB staff were also investigating a separate incident in which a young woman was allegedly assaulted by a man in Caversham about 9.15pm on Saturday.

The 26-year-old woman was walking past Mitchell's Tavern in South Rd when she was verbally harassed by two men.

She ignored them but soon after was grabbed by a man and dragged a short distance down College St.

It was alleged one man indecently assaulted her while the other man watched. The woman, who suffered bruising, managed to struggle free and run away.

Both men were described as being short, dark-skinned and wearing dark clothing.

There was no suggestion the incidents were related, but police were asking for any information about them.
