A school of 70 fish lanterns were fashioned on Saturday for the Dunedin Midwinter Carnival on June 22.

Workshop co-ordinator Filipa Crofskey said about 100 people made the fish lanterns at Dunedin North Intermediate.

Bamboo, cane, wire, glue, tape and tissue were transformed into fish including angelfish and John Dory.

A globe lantern-making workshop was planned for Ocean Beach Scout Hall, in St Kilda, this weekend and then a traditional lantern-making workshop the following weekend.

All the workshops had sold out and people were booking for next year, Ms Crofskey said.shawn.mcavinue@odt.co.nz
