School bands sought

Dunedin secondary school bands are being sought for a live music project.

The Amped music project promotes all-age, alcohol-free gigs, to address a lack of live music events for young people who are usually unable to attend licensed venues.

The project would include a series of gigs and workshops over the next four months, Amped co-ordinator Simon Wallace said yesterday. Ten bands were required, which would then be assigned a music industry mentor and take part in a series of gigs and workshops.

''The bands involved learn a lot about the music industry and many have gone on to do really well at a local and regional level,'' Mr Wallace said.

''I'm really looking forward to working with these bands and connecting with the youth community.''

Bands can apply by emailing ampedmusicproject@gmail.com

Applications close on June 28.
