The case of a Mosgiel pensioner who almost lost $16,000 to a scammer was an ''unfortunate coincidence''.
Spark has investigated the incident where the customer had a six-hour phone call with a scammer claiming to be from the telecommunications company.
That call came just half-an-hour after she contacted the company, leaving her name and telephone number for a call back.
Yesterday a Spark spokesman said: ''We've investigated this thoroughly and we believe this was an unfortunate coincidence.''
This month, Spark issued a warning about fraudsters reportedly telling customers their services would be cut unless they changed their settings or cleaned up their computers.
