Four-year-old Heidi Toppler gets a gecko painted on her face by face-painter Flora McKenzie during the reptile awareness day at the Tūhura Otago Museum on Saturday.

To celebrate the day, the museum hosted an unnamed bearded dragon who would be making their permanent home in the recently reopened Science Centre which had been closed for five days.

Museum living environments co-ordinator Samantha Edward-Ingle said naming the little reptile would be put to a public vote.

"Our bearded dragon is friendly and loves people. He’s curious and outgoing, and I know the kids will love him," she said.
