Council 3 Waters group manager Tom Dyer said contractors had dumped sand on the wall twice this week but more significant work would be required.
Substantial improvements would be made during the next two weeks and included removing sharp debris from around the sausages and repositioning the small bags which had shifted from the base of the wall.
Posts would also probably be used to hold some of the smaller bags in place, he said.
It was normal for the amount of sand to fluctuate at this time of year and as they were a temporary structure in a natural environment the sand sausages needed regular maintenance.
