The vandals responsible for ripping up Harbour Rugby Club's grounds tore up the turf in a "stupid'' act, club chairman Lance Spence says.

Cars have been driven on to Moller Park in recent months and the ground was vandalised again overnight on Thursday last week when a car was driven around it, tearing up the turf, Mr Spence said.

"They are going down there, doing wheelies and driving off.

"It's a pretty stupid thing to do, really.

"I can't believe it.''

In the latest case, the perpetrators had the audacity to clean their car in a truck wash neighbouring the ground, Mr Spence said.

The damage had resulted in the ground being closed for a fortnight, which meant some junior rugby fixtures planned for this weekend would need to be moved.

"That's a frustration,'' Mr Spence said.

A nearby resident believed she saw a white car causing the damage.

However, the club had no further information about who was behind the vandalism.

Dunedin City Council parks operations manager Hamish Black said Logan Park and Kettle Park had also been targeted recently.

The council had informed police about the attacks and would look at what measures could be put in place to prevent the same thing happening again, he said.

Any information about the vandalism or people in vehicles behaving suspiciously on sports fields should be reported to police, Mr Black said.
