Roslyn patrols after homes burgled

Dunedin police will patrol the suburb of Roslyn after neighbouring properties were burgled at the weekend.

A homeowner in Bruce St, who left keys in a garage door and in the ignition of a motorbike inside the garage, went to check on a neighbour who had been burgled and returned to find both sets of keys missing.

The burglaries happened sometime between 2am and 3pm yesterday and police believe they are linked.

Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said the initial burglary victim had a cellphone and wallet taken off a dining room table.

"They [the homeowners] have woken to the front door and the front gate of their property being open and they were closed when they went to sleep.''

There was no indication as to whether the front door was locked or unlocked before they went to bed, Snr Sgt Waru said.

It was likely that the same person involved in the burglaries, she said.

"Because there's a pattern emerging, we will patrol the area."

Camera gear taken

About $1800 worth of camera equipment was also taken from a car parked at a property on Alton Ave in Musselburgh at the weekend.

Snr Sgt Waru said the residence was located about 100m from the road and there was no sign of forced entry to the car. She was unsure whether it had been locked.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in their neighbourhood should contact Dunedin police on (03) 471-4800.
