Review seeks anglers’ comments

Maximum daily bag limits and other trout and salmon fishing regulations are under review by Fish and Game Otago.

Fish and Game Otago officer Cliff Halford said the organisation was inviting anglers to comment on recommended changes, which included zero bag limits on the Routeburn and Lochy rivers, daily bag limits on all Otago waterways, the length of the season and conditions of use for Dunedin's Southern Reservoir.

Mr Halford said comments, ideas and recommendations would be taken seriously.

"We're not just putting it out for public comment for no reason,'' Mr Halford said.

"Public comment is important. The anglers can come to us at any time to express concerns or with any ideas they may have.''

The last full review of the Anglers Notice for Otago involving public consultation was undertaken in 2011.

The review would be conducted triennially from this year.

This review follows the signing of the council's Sports Fish and Game Management Plan last May.

Submissions should be made in writing to Fish and Game Otago's Cromwell office by March 4.
