A Dunedin rest-home resident was unable to sleep in anticipation of a ride on a three-wheeled motorcycle.
Yesterday, residents of Marne Street Hospital were taken around Dunedin on a 2019 Rewaco RF1.
Driven and owned by Ron Harvey, the three-wheeler has three seats and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine.
Residents Yvonne Aitcheson and Brian Wilson were the first to get a ride.
Ms Aitcheson could not sleep on Sunday night due to her excitement and had to take sleeping pills to get some shut-eye.
"I’m so excited. I've never been on one in my life, so I hope it's all worthwhile. If it turns out good I’ll do it again."
Both she and Mr Wilson agreed it was good to get out into the community.
"I've been on one once. Done a trip up in Wollongong in Australia."
He would "love" the chance to ride on the trike more often.
Hospital diversional therapist Debbie Wilson said residents wanted to do something "extraordinary".
"A lot of them don't get a lot of privilege to go out.
"So basically, some of [the residents] said, ‘can we do something extraordinary and this is why Ron came along."
The oldest resident to ride the bike was 93, she said.
"Sometimes they haven't even seen around Dunedin with the changes that we've had. So it's really nice for them to be able to have that chance."
There were plans to continue the rides for the residents in the future as some missed out, she said.
