A dispenser for dog waste bags at Kaikorai Estuary is set to be joined by a rubbish bin. DCC parks manager Lisa Wheeler told the Saddle Hill Community Board last week a bin would be installed as soon as possible. Board chairman Scott Weatherall said it had paid more than $1000 for its installation which stalled until the council agreed to pay the $660 annual bin clearing costs. Photo by Shawn McAvinue.
A picnic table being relocated from Braids Hill playground to the northern end of Brighton Domain was one of the matters included in Dunedin City Council parks manager Lisa Wheeler's update to the Saddle Hill Community Board on projects in its area last week.

Concerns discussed with Ms Wheeler included:

• Board member Keith McFadyen's suggestion a second picnic table be installed outside the fish and chip shop in Brighton.

• Board member John Moyle said three rubbish bins in Shand Park, in Green Island, was ''excessive'' and more bins were needed in Sunnyvale.

Ms Wheeler said the council was investigating ''rejigging'' rubbish bin placement in the community board area and would confer with animal control staff about the bins at the Green Island dog park.

• Board chairman Scott Weatherall said many of the freedom campers being moved on by council staff from Ocean View Recreation Reserve were relocating to Brighton Domain.

Ms Wheeler said council regulations allowed two freedom campers within a 50m radius at the domain, which could host up to six freedom campers in the car park and driveway, she said.

• Mr Weatherall said he was concerned people were sleeping overnight in cars at Ocean View.

''It sits with me uncomfortably ... when I think freedom camping, I think, not a car,'' he said.

Ms Wheeler said people were allowed to sleep in cars at the reserve.

• Mr McFadyen put a motion for the council to name the playground at Braids Hill to honour long-serving councillor Colin Weatherall.

He suggested the name Colin Weatherall Reserve. Mr Moyle seconded the motion.
