For the first time in almost two years Southern CIB staff will have a leader based in the district.
Southern district police have been without a district crime manager since former Detective Inspector Steve McGregor retired in 2014.
That will change in November when a new crime manager takes up the Dunedin-based role.
A police spokeswoman yesterday confirmed an appointment had been made but would not yet disclose the name of the officer.
The role — which included oversight of the district’s CIB and serious crime and a seat on the District Governance Group — had been filled by Canterbury district crime manager Detective Inspector Tom Fitzgerald, who would continue to have oversight in the district for a short time.
The role had remained vacant as police were unable to find a successful applicant until recently, the spokeswoman said.
