Rain brings cooler temperatures

As the rain has fallen, so have the temperatures.

Dunedin recorded its lowest daytime high temperature in more than six weeks on Monday, 12degC, while yesterday it only reached 13degC. Similar temperature drops were experienced around the region.

The temperature highs were similar to the overnight lows the region had been experiencing during the previous hot, dry weeks when temperatures were routinely between 17degC and 28degC.

The low temperatures came with the southwesterly change which was moving off the region, to be replaced today with settled, sunnier weather, the MetService said.

In the three days since Sunday morning, official MetService figures show 22.4mm of rain fell in Dunedin City, 26mm at Dunedin airport, 41mm in Ranfurly, 28mm in Alexandra, 23.6mm in Queenstown, 26mm in Wanaka, 25.2mm in Oamaru and 22.4mm in Balclutha.

A front was crossing the Tasman Sea but it was too early to tell if it would bring any rain to Otago, the MetService said.
