Henry's device - built to deliver medication to remote villages in Cambodia - was one of hundreds of innovative presentations displayed at day one of the event.
Convener Steven Sexton said he expected about 340 presentations in total which spanned every sector of science, maths and technology.
"There are a range of prizes and most of the schools vet the displays before they get here, so we expect 80% to 85% of them will get some kind of award.''
Judges hoped to have made their decisions by late today.
The displays will be shown publicly at Otago Museum from tomorrow until Sunday.
