Principal Katrina Robertson said the school was locked down for about 15 minutes, just as interval was beginning, after a pupil picked up an object in the classroom and threatened to use it as a weapon.
"It was just an item that was nearby. It was a heat-of-the-moment, reach-out-and-grab something situation, as opposed to anything more sinister."
She said the school went into lockdown for the safety of all concerned at the school.
"The whole school - staff and students - successfully did this as we have practised.
"I know that lockdowns can be stressful for children. We did all we could to help bring this to an end as quickly as possible.
"The safety of our students is our number one priority. We take all measures necessary to keep them safe."
She said the incident was quickly resolved without any injuries, and classes resumed soon after.
The pupil was later collected from the school.
"Everyone is safe and has come together for a debrief.
"We’re following through with the school’s protocols to deal with this matter."
