Power has been restored to Dunedin homes after being out for three hours in the West Harbour area around Sawyers Bay.
A large macrocarpa tree brought down power lines, cutting electricity to homes in Blanket Bay, Mt Cargill, Pigeon Flat, Sawyers Bay and the Waitati Valley area.
The falling tree, which was on a steep bank, brought down two power poles in Blanket Bay about 11am.
State Highway 88 between Dunedin and Port Chalmers was open to southbound traffic only with northbound traffic diverted around Blanket Bay Rd.
The diversion disrupted freight operations at the Port of Otago with some trucks struggling to negotiate the smaller road.
