The opening of Portobello Rd, near the Marne St intersection, has been delayed.
"We apologise for the continuing inconvenience, but the work is necessary to make sure the road is safe for everyone to use."
A Dunedin City Council spokesman said contractors were still removing unstable rocks and boulders from the cliff above the stretch of road, and there was still more work to do.
"We need to keep this section of Portobello Rd closed over the weekend and into next week.

A detour is available via Doon St.
He said council would review the possibility of reopening one lane, as soon as it could.
