More than 70 of the cars, first produced in 1948, will be in Dunedin this weekend for the 19th National Morris Minor Convention.
The event is being hosted by the Otago Morris Minor Club at Forbury Park Raceway.
Convention committee member Alan Annis said the 11 Morris Minor clubs around the country were sending cars to the event, which opens on Friday night.
"We've got a number of very high-class cars coming."
When the cars were released, they were considered miles ahead of the opposition, he said.
Most of those to be on show were from the 1950s and 1960s.
"They were very popular in New Zealand because they were so reliable, a good road car for travelling."
On Saturday, some of the cars would be judged in the morning before they all went on public display at Forbury between 1pm and 2pm, he said.
The owners would then take the cars on a drive around Otago Peninsula.
On Sunday, the cars will be on pubic display at Kings High School between 12.30pm and 2pm after a photo shoot and run to Taieri Mouth
