Police have identified the owner of a four-wheel-drive which was involved in an illegal furniture dumping incident in central Dunedin last month.
CCTV caught a green Toyota Prado being driven erratically in Vogel St on May 7, shaking derelict furniture from its trailer.
The vehicle careered around the corner from Gordon St to dump the unsecured furniture at 2pm and 6pm on the day in question.
Dunedin road police and the Dunedin City Council became involved in an effort to identify the driver.
Otago Coastal road policing manager Senior Sergeant Steve Larking this week confirmed police had spoken to the owner of the vehicle.
‘‘He has accepted that it was his vehicle and furniture dumped,’’ Snr Sgt Larking said.
‘‘Although he accepts it was his vehicle and trailer, he has denied driving.
‘‘He has been served with two notices to identify who was driving the vehicle at the time the rubbish was dumped.
‘‘If he does not identify who was driving we have an option to commence a prosecution for failing to supply details.’’
