The final score: Police 5, Pitch Invaders 1.
Police have praised the behaviour of the more than 25,000 fans who attended the World Cup clash between England and Romania at Otago Stadium on Saturday night.
A barefoot man wearing Union Jack shorts, England jersey and St George facepaint gatecrashed the match during stoppage time and dived under posts at the eastern end of the ground before being tackled by security.
The Otago Daily Times understands the 24-year-old man was from North Hampshire, England, and wanted his mother to see him on television.
He is likely to appear in the Dunedin District Court later this week.
The opening World Cup clash in the city between England and Argentina also featured a pitch invasion, with the 23-year-old Dunedin streaker given diversion and asked to pay a donation, believed to be $500.
Police also evicted four other people from the ground.
Dunedin Area Commander Inspector Dave Campbell said the crowd behaviour at the stadium was once again very good, with police evicting a total of five people.
"Fans have again enjoyed a positive and enjoyable occasion."
St John staff treated 16 people during the match for minor medical matters, one of whom was transferred to the emergency department at Dunedin Hospital.
Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said despite the large number of revellers, there were just a dozen arrests on Saturday night, far fewer than a normal weekend in the city.
"Long may this continue," he said.
