Acting Sergeant Jaimee McDonald (left) and Senior Constable Karren Bye, of the South Dunedin Strategic Traffic Unit, cycle along North Rd in Dunedin yesterday.
They have been promoting high visibility and cycle safety with other Dunedin police officers since July 22, as part of a citywide Be Bright campaign run in conjunction with the Dunedin City Council.
Acting Sgt McDonald said officers had spent up to five hours patrolling on bicycles in the past few days.
''It has been really good. There are a lot of people on bikes,'' she said.
The University of Otago campus and surrounding residential student area in North Dunedin was targeted in the campaign this week.
''We've been out around the varsity in the mornings and again before sunset, giving out lights and reminding people about what they should do to keep safe while cycling,'' Acting Sgt McDonald said.
Editor - In the interests of clarity it should be noted the cyclists are staggered but the telephoto lens has distorted the perspective to make it appear as if they are riding two abreast.
