Police continue to maintain a heavy presence near Dunedin schools after six children were subjected to suspicious approaches this month.

A police spokeswoman said the child protection team had received no new reports of alleged approaches to children since a man had asked to take the photo of two 9-year-olds in Ravensbourne on Saturday. The children ran home in a panic.

‘‘Police are working alongside parents and educational providers to ensure the safety of young people and identify any individual responsible,’’ she said.

‘‘We reiterate the recommendation people be alert but not alarmed.’’

The other reports of approaches to primary-aged children have been from Halfway Bush, two from Wakari and one from George St near Warrender St. No arrests have been made.
