An altercation over a night-time car swap is being investigated by Dunedin police.
Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan White said a prearranged car swap took place in Dunedin at 2am on Sunday between a ''carload'' of people from Temuka and a ''carload'' from Dunedin.
They swapped a Toyota Hilux utility vehicle and a BMW car in the middle of the night, after those from Temuka had driven to Dunedin.
Acting Snr Sgt White said one of the vehicles was driven away and there was confusion between the parties about whether the sale had taken place as prearranged.
''One of the parties felt they were aggrieved.''
Police were then called to an altercation involving the groups of people at 10.30am in Beresford St, in Kaikorai Valley. One Dunedin man armed himself with a steel bar during the incident, Acting Snr Sgt White said.
No charges had been laid, as police were trying to determine exactly what had happened, he said.
