With energy to burn, about 500 preschoolers celebrated Playcentre Awareness Week in ways only preschoolers can - by eating non-toxic paint, mashing modelling dough into their clothes, and collecting grass stains as they chased each other around the fields.

Chingford Park was a hive of activities yesterday, including bubble machines, balloon-sculpting, painting, story-reading, stilt-walking and train rides.

Event organiser and Macandrew Bay Playcentre fundraising officer Antoinette McLean said the Little Day Out was supposed to have been held on Wednesday, but was postponed due to poor weather.

She said the event was held every two years and was a fantastic opportunity for preschoolers and their families to see Playcentre was all about families learning together and sharing magical experiences through play.

"This year, the theme is Investing in our Children. The time and energy we as parents put into our children in the early years produces great results," she said.
