Pizza shop optimism

Domino's Pizza is eyeing a Mosgiel outlet store than could help Dunedin reverse the city's trend of job losses.

The company is searching for a key missing ingredient: a franchise operator for the store.

Domino's Pizza general manager Scott Bush said the company hoped to begin construction of a Mosgiel outlet by late January.

The $500,000 development was expected to generate up to 20 jobs, as well as work for tradesmen during construction, which was expected to take about a month, he said.

The company was in the final stages of negotiating a contract to lease a site in Gordon Rd, Mosgiel.

The company can only proceed if it finds a franchisee willing to fund development.

The company had been contacted by interested people, but was hoping to cast the net wider in its search for an ''entrepreneurial'' local, or someone from further afield, he said.

''We have had plenty of inquiries,'' he said.
