An iPhone6+ was stolen from a truck parked in a secure industrial yard in Donald St, Kenmure at 2.40am on Saturday.
Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said several phones had been stolen from trucks parked in the yard in August last year.
Police had talked with the business owners about stopping staff storing phones in trucks overnight to prevent future thefts.
The theft was recorded on CCTV and police inquiries were continuing.
