Native Solutions subcontractors plant alpine tussock at the side of Caversham Valley Rd in Dunedin this week.

Native Solutions director Morgan Townsend, of Rangiora, said five men would plant nearly 25,000 plants, including kowhai and totara trees, to attract the endangered peripatus worm. The planting also included a common broadleaf plant.

''It is what the worm likes to live under. It encourages them to cross the creek and move into the reclaimed land.''

It was planned to finish the planting by Wednesday, he said.

Native Solutions, a Rangiora business, was subcontracted by North Auckland business Kauri Park, he said.
