Parking changes in Mosgiel

In a bid to address parking woes in Mosgiel, the Mosgiel Taieri Community Board has endorsed making some changes.

At a meeting last week, Dunedin City Council senior traffic engineer Bruce Conaghan addressed concerns raised during a site visit in December.

He proposed changing parallel parks outside the BNZ bank to a loading zone as the parks were deemed too short.

Parking in the cul-de-sac ends of Glasgow St and Lanark St east of Irvine St would be restricted to 60 minutes and signs would be installed at the intersection of Gordon Rd and Ayr St to indicate the parking area.

The board approved these changes, and the loading zone and time restrictions would be implemented within six weeks and parking signs would be installed within four weeks.

Other traffic safety concerns raised would be looked at by the council and the New Zealand Transport Agency to assess feasibility and time frames.

These were - installation of traffic signals at the Gordon Rd and Ayr St intersection; removal of the kerb protrusion to provide for a right turning bay from Gordon Rd into Cargill St; installation of a right turn bay from Gordon Rd into Harstonge Ave, with the removal of two 10-minute parking spaces.

The council and NZTA would also monitor pedestrian crossings on Gordon Rd to determine if the existing crossings needed to be amalgamated into one signalled crossing or each be changed to a signalled crossing.
