Park drainage and maintenance needed

Young footballers losing their boots in the smelly mud of their playing field is just one of the problems facing the Mornington Football Club, president Richard Kinley says.

The club, which has grown in recent years from 27 to 90 players under the age of 11, and fields 12 junior and two senior teams, is based at Mornington Park and uses the old, unused, toilet facilities and shed as storage.

For years, the park's field had suffered from a lack of drainage which turned it into a muddy, stagnant mess, that made the club a "laughing stock" and often meant games could not be played there, he said.

The park was an important asset, so the council should consider putting in some drainage, Mr Kinley said.

The club would also like the some maintenance done to the old toilet block, to make it waterproof and enable better storage of gear, he said.

Council staff said they would review the state of the block.
