Otago Polytechnic fashion graduates Mandy Myles, Samuel Ralph and Rakel Blom are among 31 finalists chosen to show their garments at the upcoming iD International Emerging Designer Awards.

A part of iD Dunedin Fashion Week, the emerging awards are an avant-garde display of fresh designs from throughout New Zealand and the world.

This year's show on March 14 will comprise collections from 15 New Zealanders and 11 Australians as well as two British and two Irish designers and an engineering science university student from China.

The ninth annual emerging designer awards promised to thrill audience members with outfits of new technologies, three-dimensional construction, fantasy and colour, organisers said.

More than 100 people applied to be finalists for the show, which will be staged at the Lion Foundation Arena at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin.

Selection committee members Tanya Carlson, Margi Robertson and Mickey Lin said they were impressed by the high calibre of applicants.
