Otago Regional Council plans to establish new chambers in  Philip Laing House have encountered delays.

The council hoped to hold next week’s council meeting in the building, but will instead hold it at the Toitu auditorium.

Regional council executive officer Ian McCabe said its tenancy was slightly delayed due to work by  Philip Laing House’s owner.

"Refurbishment and fit-out of the tenancy will be largely complete by  May 16, 2018.

"Works being carried out by the building owner to allow for the fit-out to be finally completed could take another four to six weeks, so we are not expecting to have the tenancy handed over to the council until mid to late June."

It cost $450 per day plus GST to hire the Toitu auditorium, he said.

"The council has sought to utilise and support a facility owned by its Dunedin City Council partners.

"This is something we like to take into account when deciding on off-site locations to meet."

The council is spending almost $1 million refurbishing the second floor of the building to house its chambers and some of its staff.

It will be a temporary measure while it develops a long-awaited new head office.
