One person is dead after a collision between a truck and a four-wheel-drive vehicle on State Highway 1 between Allanton and Waihola.
Emergency services were called to the crash, just south of the Taieri River bridge, at 2pm.
The driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle died at the scene, Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said.
The truck driver was not seriously injured but was taken to Dunedin Hospital for assessment.
Southbound traffic is being diverted through Henley and northbound traffic along Centre Rd to Allanton.
Snr Sgt Aitken said the highway would be closed until about 5.30pm.
