Dunedin woman Jan Burch, of the NumberWorks'n Words tutoring service, was inspired to shave off her hair when one of her trainee tutors, Frances Barnett, did so for charity.
A week after the shave, Ms Burch is enjoying the change, joking that it makes getting ready for work that bit easier.
She raised $3066 for the Neurological Foundation, half of which was secured through an online appeal.
Her tutoring business then matched the amount.
Ms Burch suffered a moderate head injury in a horse-riding accident more than 20 years ago.
The temporary cognitive loss after the accident was a ''devastating'' situation for a mathematics tutor.
It made her empathise with those facing permanent loss of function.
She thought donations would dry up after the head-shave, but they continued in the week afterwards.
The appeal has now closed.
