On the nose

Lawyers Head protrudes between Tomahawk and St Kilda beaches.

The name is said to have come from the promontory’s resemblance to the nose of 19th-century Dunedin lawyer James Howarth.

The Chisholm Golf Links’ signature ninth hole runs the length of the headland and its 400m out-of-bounds has been the bane of many golfers.
