Dunedin's impressive collection of street art is growing, with a pair of local artists painting a mural at George St Normal School.

Stickum Co-operative artists Guy Howard-Smith and Aroha Novak are painting the mural on a Duke St property overlooking the school.

Mr Howard-Smith said the mural incorporated drawings by pupils of their visions of an ideal future.

‘‘It's been a perfect collaboration really.''

The finished piece would have a child with its open hand outstretched, with a spinning vortex of children's ideas for the future above the child.

‘‘The child is a visual metaphor of all the children's hopes and dreams for the future,'' he said.

The school paid for the project by holding a disco and the building's owner also contributed some funds.
