No queue after cube cue

Otago Daily Times readers have shown a remarkable lack of interest in the glass cube design for the entrance to the Dunedin Town Hall.

The Dunedin City Council announced its latest plans for the town hall, Dunedin Centre and Municipal Chambers on Wednesday, with the glass entrance a centrepiece of a $45 million revamp.

Despite a call for readers' responses on the architectural design, no emails were received, and just one telephone message by 2.30pm, with a call for hearing aids to be included at the town hall.

That compares with 621 telephone messages when the stadium was the subject of Teletopics last year.

Response to a poll on the issue on the newspaper's website yesterday was stronger.

By mid-afternoon, there were 81 votes, or 68% preferring the town hall left as it was, 31 votes or 26% agreeing it was better than a previous design with an atrium on Harrop St, four votes preferring the atrium, and four not sure.
