Clarification of what quarrying may be carried out at the Saddle Hill quarry could be months away.
Dunedin City Council resource consents manager Alan Worthington said yesterday his staff were still working with the quarry owner to clarify his legal right to keep quarrying there and it might be mid-year before the matter was settled.
The council began investigating in August after it received calls from Taieri residents who were concerned the quarry might be expanded up the side of Jaffrays Hill, the smaller of the two Saddle Hill peaks.
Mr Worthington said quarrying was continuing, but only from the bottom of the quarry.
He said the goal was to come to a point "where it is clearly understood what is and isn't allowed" at the quarry.
