After moving to a new premises, Citizen Advice Bureau Dunedin say they are now able to offer a more confidential service.

Citizens Advice Bureau (Cab) provides free and confidential advice to everyone.

Since March the service has been operating from Rodgers House in Princes St, after moving from Dunedin Community House.

Cab Dunedin manager Robbie Eade said the decision to move came after the service grew too big for premises.

"We started to get a line out the door.''

She said at their new location, thanks to having more space and rooms, they were now able to help more people with improved privacy.

Cab is a New Zealand-wide not-for-profit organisation, and is not government funded.

Dunedin Cab receives funding from a range of groups, including the Dunedin City Council.

About 50 volunteers, ranging in age from 18-70, and from a diverse mix of ethnic groups, are available to offer any advice.

Ms Eade said some of their most common questions were about tenancy agreements when students were coming and going, employment issues and consumers' rights.

"We offer a valuable and non-judgemental service ... we have even helped migrants fill out forms.''

Ms Eade had only recently become the manager of the service, but had been a volunteer for the past two years.

She said over time she had noticed people's problems were becoming trickier than they used to be, because fewer face-to-face services were available.

Ms Eade said the volunteers were experienced in answering questions and had a database to refer to, as well as being able to direct inquiries to other agencies.

"Don't know, ask us.''
