Moving on

The constable in charge of the Waikouaiti police station, Jon Paul (''J.P.'') Tremain (pictured), has left to become officer in charge of the two-person police station at Havelock, near Blenheim.

Const Tremain served for eight years and nine months at Waikouaiti, an area which extends from Flag Swamp to just south of Evansdale.

The community was supportive of police, he said. A highlight had been introducing bluelight discos for young people in the town.

There would be a selection procedure to find a replacement police officer and he hoped an appointment would be made in time for the busy summer season.
