Firefighters applauded a "good save" yesterday morning after an electrical fire threatened a Caversham residential property.

Five appliances and firefighters from Lookout Point, Dunedin City, Roslyn and St Kilda were called to Murrayfield St about 9am.

The sole occupant of the house  at the time of the fire was outside when firefighters arrived and was uninjured, station officer Murray Little said.

"It appears there’s been a fire in an electrical outlet which has travelled up the wall and into the ceiling," he said.

Firefighters  extinguished the blaze with minimal damage to the house and ventilated the property.

"That was a good save wasn’t it," Mr Little said.

"Smoke alarms were going when we arrived, so that was really good."

Power and water were isolated to prevent further damage.
