Police are speaking to a man they believe made "inappropriate" comments to a 14-year-old girl in central Dunedin today.
They said the incident in the Octagon happened about 2pm.
Senior Sergeant Phil Hamlin told the Otago Daily Times a friend of the girl contacted police after the upset teen locked herself in a toilet at the Dunedin Public Library.
Snr Sgt Hamlin said the remarks made to her were "possibly" of a sexual nature.
Police spoke to a number of people in the Octagon at the time of the incident, including the man.
No arrest has been made, and police were continuing their inquiries.
