A man thrown out of a Dunedin nightclub by a security guard, who has since resigned, disputes he was being racist and punched a woman in the face.

A video showing a man being escorted out of Catacombs Nightclub in a half Nelson before being thrown to the ground by a security guard was posted on TikTok on Sunday morning, and has recorded more than 121,000 views.

The man, who refused to provide his name, said he

had been in the nightclub for about five minutes and had jumped on the stage before security removed him and escorted him out.

He did not know why the incident escalated to the point where he was thrown to the ground in lower Stuart St, by a security guard whom he since learned had resigned.

He was winded in the fall.

He had no issues about being removed from the club, although he thought the guard had used excessive force.

"I was being a little d...," he said.

However, he said that SPS Security owner Danny Taimalie’s claims that he had made racist slurs towards security guards and punched a female guard, reported by the Otago Daily Times, were false.

He was planning to speak to Mr Taimalie last night and seek an apology, he said.

Mr Taimalie declined to comment to the ODT last night.
