Reduced availability of parking because of Dunedin helping to stage the Fifa Women’s World Cup led to Te Pūkenga Otago Polytechnic adjusting some of its operations.
Lecturers had worked with students to come up with solutions for any classes happening on match days, such as moving them online if students were going to struggle to get there, a spokeswoman said.
"Staff have also been encouraged to work from home on match days, where possible, to free up parking spaces for our students."
Dunedin held the first of its six matches in the international football tournament yesterday.
Various road closures are in place on match days and the stadium for Dunedin’s games is in the tertiary education area.
The Dunedin City Council advised parking around Forsyth Barr Stadium would be tighter than usual and surrounding roads would be closed.
The polytechnic spokeswoman said it had been working with the council to keep staff and students informed about the situation.
Local access permits had been given to staff who paid for carparks around the polytechnic.
"We’ve encouraged staff and students to embrace more sustainable transport options such as walking, ride-sharing and taking the bus."
Mobility parking remained available.
